Five Question Friday!

Good morning and welcome!  It's the last Friday in October and I know my kids are super excited for trick or treating on Sunday.  Of course, the Hallowe'en festivities have already begun with their Beavers and Sparks units having Hallowe'en parties.  Today at school they will also be having a class party and the school does a costume parade.  While I'm glad they are getting use out of their costumes, I think I'm going to be all Hallowe'ened out by the end of it!

It's Five Question Friday again, yay!  I love linking up at My Litte Life and playing along.  I hope you'll join in the fun too.  The rules are simple:  Copy and paste the following 5Q into a blog post of your own, answer them and link up!  Feel free to answer the questions in a comment here if you don't have a blog.

1.  If you could be a fly on any wall, which would you choose?

Hmm, this is a good question.  I think I would say a political or celebrity person's wall; but, I can't decide who at the moment...maybe Prince William?

2.  Do you budget your Christmas shopping or just get it done without budgeting?

I've never really budgeted although I probably should.

No, I don't think that's actually true.  While I might not sit down and say "I'll spend x on this person", I do know we're on a budget and limit what I would buy.  In the past, each person may have received 2-3 gifts. Now, each is only getting 1 and whenever possible, Mr. Twingle and I, make the gifts or use our Aeroplan miles to get gift cards to pay for those items.  It makes the budget go a little farther and I don't end up with guilt over not being able to afford Christmas.

3.  What is the craziest fad diet you have ever done?

Oh my, where do I begin?  I've struggled with my weight all my life so I've tried many diets over the years.  The only "fad" diet I can think of is the grapefruit diet, which is hilarious since I don't even like the stuff!
In highschool I decided that I couldn't eat breakfast because it made me feel sick and then I stopped eating lunch and would only have dinner.  This worked well for losing weight; but, when I started eating properly again I gained it all back and then some.

4.  Is there a TV show that you have seen every episode/season of?

Charmed!  I loved Charmed while it was on and it was my Sunday night solice, never missing a week.  I now have the entire series on DVD which I have watched in its entirety at least twice.

5.  What one song always pulls at your heart?

I'm going to have to say my wedding song, "Feels Like Home" by Chantal Kreviazuk.  Everytime I hear it, it brings a tear to my eyes.

Well that's it for this week.  But now that you're finished, why not pop over to 3 Moms in One where I'm the Friends 2 Follow featured blogger for the week!

Fall Camp with the Girl Guides

Girls and women around the world are often members of Girl Guides/Scouts at some point in their life.  As the largest organization for girls led by women in the world, Girl Guides/Scouts provides unique opportunities for its members.

As a girl member myself, I loved to go to camp.  There was nothing better than being in a tent with my friends being silly.  Trading stickers and jelly bracelets, talking boys or about the latest on the music scene are just some of my fond memories.

I also loved the hikes, the crafts and the various activities.  Of course, the campfire itself always held a magical draw for me too.

Now, as an adult member, many of those memories are true today.  The sisterhood of Guiding never really goes away.  While I'm not sitting in my tent being silly and talking boys, I enjoy listening to the girls do just that.  I enjoy the company of my fellow Guiders as we sit around the fire sipping on hot chocolate or apple cider making good conversation.

This past weekend, my Guide unit had it's first Fall camp.  We have a very small group of girls this year, just three; but, I was happy to have them all come out.

We totally lucked out in the weather department.  The evening before our camp, temperatures had dropped below zero with the windchill and I feared it would be a very long, cold night.  Thankfully, Mother Nature, warmed things up a bit making the night cool; but bearable.

Our theme for Friday night was CSI.  The BC Girl Guides have put out a CSI challenge and we did may of the activities in order to earn their crest; but, we were able to put a spin on things since the other Guider in the unit is a police officer and was able to bring out actual forensics kits for us to use!

After our CSI activities and some silly songs we had Mug Up and made s'mores, hot dogs and hot chocolate over the fire.  YUM.  Surprisingly, the girls went to bed at a decent hour and we were able to get a somewhat good sleep; well, until the planes started coming in at 4:00am.  We were directly under their flight path, so sleeping in a tent about 300ft below them, is enough to wake anyone out of the deepest sleep!

The girls were up and ready to go by 7:30 and we got breakfast going: pancakes and sausages cooked over the campfire with fruit salad on the side.  We finished eating and clean up and went on a hike to complete our wildflower badge.  Even in the fall, the girls were able to identify three wildflowers and find edible wildflowers!

We finished up the morning with another craft for their camp hat and daylight taps.  Even though it was a short, one night camp, it was a great way to start another Guiding year.  The girls are already asking when we're going on our next camp!

I love being able to see the excitement on the girls faces when we tell them we're already working on plans for the next one!

There is nothing better than being the one to help these girls obtain memories like those I have had growing up.  Guiding/Scouting is truly a remarkable movement and one I'm proud to be part of!

Crazy or Devoted?

I'm just about to head out to our first Guide camp of the year.  I'm excited as I love to camp and didn't get out this summer; BUT, it's been pretty cold the past few nights, even dipping below 0 with the windchill.  We are sleeping in tents and I know I'll be warm as I've camped in the fall before and have a good sleeping bag.  I just don't know if the girls will stay warm; it could make for a very long night.

I'll post pictures and reviews when I get back.  Happy Fall!

Small Successes

The twins are in Grade 1 this year and they have some sort of homework every Friday and they have until the following Thursday to send it back complete.  Pretty is very diligent about doing her homework the night it comes home; but, getting Booto do his homework is like pulling teeth.

He would much rather go down to the playroom or go outside and play.  While I'm all for going outside and enjoying the few nice days we have left before winter sets in, homework is important and needs to be done.  Not only that; but, with extracurriculars 3 nights a week (I do Guides Tuesday, Boo does Beavers Wednesday and Pretty & I do Sparks Thursday), there isn't time to do homework after dinner.

Growing up, I always had the rule that homework had to be done when you got home and then other activities and amusements could be done.  I never really understood as a kid myself; but, now as a parent I get why that rule was applied and it's one I will be applying to my family.

Last week, Boo refused to do his homework and so I sent it back to school incomplete hoping the teacher would talk to Boo about it.  She didn't talk to him; but, it got sent home again with this weeks homework.  So now, Boo has two weeks worth of work to accomplish, thus double the time it should take.

On the way home from school today I explained that homework books were due back tomorrow and they had to finish anything that wasn't done.  Naturally, Boo argued again; but, I stayed firm and we just finished all the work he hadn't wanted to do!  I'm so proud that he got through it and didn't put up a fuss.  We even got it done with enough time left that he's now outside playing until dinner and then he's off to Beavers!

It's a small success; but, it feels good to know that he can do it and I can win the battles I wage!

Looking Back and Celebrating

This past weekend, my littlest girl turned one!  I can't believe it has been a year since we welcomed her into our hearts.

For some reason, Pickle turning one affected me more than the twins' first birthday did.  I actually got teary wishing her a happy birthday.  Maybe because I know she is definitely our last child and there won't be any more first birthdays to celebrate?

Whatever the reason, it made her birthday that much more special.

We had her birthday party Thanksgiving weekend, inviting family and a few friends.

On her actual birthday, my parents came down to do double duty; spend the day with Pickle and babysit while I took Boo out for the annual Scouts Apple Day.  We took the family to Boston Pizza for dinner and Pickle was very excited by the balloon the staff brought her after singing Happy Birthday.

5 Question Friday

Yay, it's Friday!  Too bad I woke up with a wicked headache that just doesn't want to go away.

It's been a couple weeks since I've linked up with My Little Life to play along with Five Question Friday, so here we go.  I hope you'll play along too!

1.  What is your favourite Hallowe'en candy?
I LOVE those Hallowe'en kisses that everyone else hates.  You know the molasses candy that's usually rock hard?

2.  Do you fold your socks?
I fold one cuff of the pair over to secure them together, so if that counts as folding, then YES.

3.  What is something you wish you had been warned about?
I wish I had been warned about the attitude my 5 year old twins give me.  Man, if this is what it's like at 5, the teenage years are going to be BRUTAL!

4.  What is the most significant different between you and your significant other?
Um, he's male I'm female?  I'd say that's a pretty significant different, LOL.

5.  What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Cranky Baby = Cranky Mommy

What a DAY!  My always happy little girl has been MISERABLE today.  Nothing cheers her up.  I've tried playing with her, reading to her, giving her snacks, meals, naps, walks, trips to the park and a slide or two while picking up the twins and nothing has made her happy.

Oh, she'll stop screaming at me for a few minutes here and there; but, for the most part today has been spent with her yelling at me.

It's also only going to get worse as Boo has Beavers tonight until 7:45, almost a full hour past Pickle's bedtime.  With Mr. Twingle travelling, that means I have to keep her up in order to pick Boo up at the end of the meeting.  Pickle is going to be even crabbier not being able to go to bed at her regular time.

Today has been a day that has made me truly appreciate how lucky I have been with all three of my children.  I have not had a baby that suffered from colic, nor have I had high-maintenance babies.  All three kids have been relatively easy going.  They haven't cried or fussed a lot unless something was plaguing them.  So for all you mothers out there that have had difficult babies, I sympathize and empathize completely.  I also take off my hat to you.  I am barely surviving one day, and can't wait for bedtime.  I don't know how you ladies put up with it for several days on end.

Tomorrow will be better, right?

Sigh...'s a beautiful fall day here in Southern Ontario.  The past three or four days have been cold and rainy so the sun and the warmer seasonal temperatures are a welcome treat.

So why do I feel so glum?  I'm stuck inside cleaning today.  You might ask why I'm cleaning on such a gorgeous day, why not clean tomorrow and enjoy the weather?  Well, simply because this week, starting this evening turns into mayhem.

Pretty and I have our weekly Sparks meeting tonight until 6:30.  Then I need to rush home to get the kids to bed before hosting the Momstown Hamilton bake exchange; which I'm VERY excited about.  Tomorrow will be spent running around getting last minute preparations for Saturday; Pickle's first birthday party.  We are expecting at least 15 people with 7 others as "maybe's".  Of course, this is also the holiday Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, so Sunday I'm hosting my family for dinner and then Monday we're off to Trevor's family for dinner there.

So that is why I am sighing in envy as I watch families out my window taking advantage of this gorgeous day as I wait for my floors to dry so I can continue cleaning!

Thanks for letting me vent and if I don't get around to it, Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian readers.

More project 365 Photos!

On Friday (day 31) I took the 3 kids to Marineland one last time before it closes for the season.  They love going to see the dolphins and whales not to mention they can ride almost everything in the park.  The great thing about going late in the season is it's not busy at all.  The twins were able to walk onto every ride without a wait.

Tag, You're It!

I was tagged a couple of days ago by LeeAnn at The Life of Rylie...& Bryce Too!  She's tagged me to play along in a cute spinoff of a childhood game.  LeeAnn had to answer 8 questions on her blog and she has tagged 8 bloggers to answer 8 of her questions; I'm one of those bloggers!

I'll answer LeeAnn's questions then tag 8 more bloggers to answer 8 of my questions.

So here goes!

1.  What was your favourite class in high school?

Do I only have to pick one?  I loved school, or at least the educational aspect of it.  I hated the politics and cliques that went along with it.  Nevertheless, I think I have two subjects that would be considered favourites.  The first is Music.  I was in the band playing clarinet.  Music class was a chance to improve my skills, make friends and release the stress and tension brought on by trying to fit in to above cliques.
My other favourite was French.  I LOVE languages.  I am very lucky that they come easily for me.  In Ontario, at the time, students started core French in grade 4 and continued until grade 9.  After which, it was no longer mandatory.  I continued with it after grade 9, completing two OAC's and then majoring in French Lit in university.

I'm second from the left in the front, not sure what's up with the look on my face!

2.  What is your absolute favourite tv show?  (Only one please!  Can you do it?)

Wow, this one was harder than I thought it would be.  Narrowing it down to only 1 show?  Really?  Sigh.  I guess I'm going to have to say Grey's Anatomy.  Which I find very ironic considering I only started watching it one season ago.  I was pregnant with Pickleand there was nothing on tv one night, so I ended up watching the second to last episode of season 5.  I sobbed my way through the episode and knew right away I had been missing a great show.  I went to the library and proceeded to borrow seasons 1-5 to get caught up.  I think I managed to watch 4 seasons in a week...that's A LOT of tv!

3.  Do you have any weird habits?  If so, what?

I don't know that I have any weird habits; but, I do have things I like done a certain way.  I guess I have a touch of OCD.
Take for example fajitas.  I have to assemble my fajita exactly the same way every time or I can't eat it.

4.  Do you wake up easily in the morning, or require coffee, exercise or something else to get you going?

I'm actually a morning person, so I wake very easily.  The alarm goes off and up I pop.  There are some mornings when I drag a little; but, 90% of the time I'm ready to go.
The downside to being a morning person though is that I can barely stay up past 10pm.  Most nights I'm in bed by 9-9:30; and on nights where Mr. Twingle and I go out with friends, I'm usually good until I get in the car to head home and then I crash.  Thankfully Mr. Twingle drives most of the time, so it doesn't become a safety issue.

5.  What kind of qualities make a good friend?

I think a good friend is someone that is compassionate and understanding.  Someone that you don't necessarily need to talk to every day or every week; but, would still be there when you need them no matter how much time had passed.

6.  What is an experience you've had where you couldn't stop laughing?

Oh my, do I really have to narrow it down?  I love to laugh (wasn't that a song in Mary Poppins?) and laugh often.  It actually makes Mr. Twingle crazy that I can get a good laugh going over nothing in particular.  Of course his displeasure in my fits of laughter usually make me laugh harder, so he really can't win, LOL!

7.  Have you ever met an internet friend in real life?

Yes, I've met several.  All of whom have been wonderful and I'm glad to have met them.

8.  What was your first job?

I was a carrier for a local paper, the Penny Saver.

Eight blogger I'm tagging!

1.  JoDee at A to Z for Mom's Like Me

2.  Stephanie at Ten Talents

3.  Melissa at The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom

4.  Ashley at Adventures in Mommywood

5.  Jen at Freckle on the Nose of Life's Complexion

6.  Bonnie at It's True the Apple Doesn't Fall Far from the Tree

7.  Stephanie at Life, Unexpectedly

8.  Becca at The Paro Post

Eight Questions I pose for them:

1.  What do you value most in life?
2.  Do you believe in life on other planets?
3.  What is your favourite childhood television programme?
4.  What do you think of right before you fall asleep at night?
5.  Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
6.  What is one thing you like about being an adult?
7.  Would you rather have a million dollars or true love?
8.  How do you behave during a crisis?

Hopefully, these are too hard and my tagged bloggers will have fun!  Let me know when you answer so I don't miss your posts!

Stalker Saturday Spotlight

I'm so very excited to be the featured blog on this week's Stalker Saturday hosted by The Life of a Sippy Cup Mom! and Stash Mama!

For those of you that are just joining me today, welcome!  Welcome back to those returning.

I've only been blogging a short time, so being stalked is certainly a wonderful way to build up my followers.  As a mom of twingles (twins + 1) life can be pretty interesting.  I try to keep my posts light and upbeat; but, really motherhood isn't always smiles and sunshine.  What I do promise is that my posts are 100% real and from my heart.

Thanks Melissa and Candice for stalking me this week.  I hope you'll all take a moment to visit Sippy Cup Mom and Stash Mama.  Let them know I sent you!

Five Question Friday for October 1, 2010

Welcome October and thanks for stopping by.  While you're here, please take a moment to enter my Clipa giveaway which ends Monday (10/4).

It's been a few weeks since I've had a chance to participate in Five Question Friday.  I hope you're link up and play along!  Pop on over to My Little Life to join in the fun.

Rules for Five Question Friday: Have fun!! That's most important...but, you'll need to copy and paste the following questions to your blog, answer them, then watch for the linky to appear Friday morning!

1.  Did you have a penpal when you were little (or now)?  Where were/are they from?

Yes, actually I did have a penpal when I was younger.  Her name was Suzette and she was from South Africa.  We started writing when we were about 16 and wrote for many years.  We lost touch about 10 years ago; but, thanks to Facebook, we were able to connect again.

2.  If you could do a different job for one day, what would it be?

Well given I'm currently a SAHM, any job would be different.  I guess I would like to be a very successful Marketing Ad Executive launching a great new campaign.

3.  Do you remember your biggest fear from when you were little?

I remember being in swimming lessons when I was about 6 or 7 and our instructor wanted us to jump off the lifeguard chair into the deep end.  I was terrified and my mom ended up coming in and jumping in with me, clothes and all.  I've never been able to jump off a diving board or anything high above the water since.

4.  What do you think is a waste of time?  Why?

Hmmm, I actually had to think about this one.  I think school fundraisers are a waste of time.  I say this as I currently have 2 on the go.  We hadn't even finished the first one when the second came home.  How much money does the school REALLY get from these fundraisers?  And as if we parents are busy enough, we have to try to convince family and friends to constantly have their hand in their pocket.  Thanks anyway :(

5.  What is the oldest item you have in your closet?

Wow, this is a good question!  I think it would have to be the suede leather jacket I bought when I was 19.

Day 30 of Project 365

For day 30, I'm posting a picture of my Sparks unit.  We went to Carluke Orchards to learn about apples and have some yummy fall snacks.  The girls all had a great time and surprised me when they voted the Mutsu apple their favourite of the 3 we got to try (Red Delicious and Golden Delicious were the others).
