The Fear and Paranoia

Yesterday was a wonderful day.  Pretty and I had a girls day and joined her BFF and mom for an afternoon of skating at a local, free, outdoor rink.

The girls had a great time and I got a chance to chat with the other mom while we supervised and picked the girls up when they fell.

During our discussions she mentioned several news items and was quite concerned by them.  Actually, it was more than just concern, it was fear.  She was genuinely afraid based on what she had seen on the news.

Seeing her upset I felt I needed to remind her that while the news is good at reporting local happenings, they're also famous for blowing things WAY out of proportion.  In fact, the media is just an outlet for propaganda promoting fear and paranoia among the masses.  At least that's my opinion.

So while I may watch or read the news to catch up on the happenings around the world, I always take what the media reports with a grain of salt.

Sometimes news media can get extreme! I hardly ever watch the news anymore.
