Planning Has Begun - Theme & Invitation

The twins are obsessed with birthdays.  Everytime a party invitation comes home, they immediately begin planning their next party; which isn't until November!

They have been back and forth on ideas for this year's party several times.  Flipping between having individual parties for the first time, to sleepovers, to bowling trips or indoor playgrounds.

It seems though, with all the Harry Potter hype over the final movie; that they have decided they want a joint, Harry Potter themed, party at home.

I am a HUGE Potter fan and have been looking for an excuse to throw the ultimate Harry Potter party!  Once it seemed Pretty & Boo had decided that it was actually going to be Harry Potter and stay Harry Potter, I began planning!

I think I might actually be MORE excited about the party than they are, at least, for the moment!

I want this party to be over-the-top, super awesome, wicked cool, the BEST party EVER!

Of course, this meant I had to do my research to find out what others before me have done for their Harry Potter themed parties; and, what I could do differently to make this one stand out from the rest.

The first order of business is the invitations!  I didn't want to just go to the party store and purchase generic Harry Potter themed invites.  How boring.  I also didn't want to copy the "Hogwarts acceptance letter" that you can find online.
After looking at other's invites and deciding that I didn't like any one by itself; I came up with this! (click the image to make it larger).

Five Question Friday for July 22, 2011

TGIF!  It's been a busy week and I'm glad the weekend is here.  The twins head off to my parents tonight for a week!  It will just be me and the Pickle for the week since Mr. Twingle is in and out with work.

While the kids are quiet for a few minutes, I thought I'd take a moment to join up with My Little Life and Five Question Friday!

1.  If your husband had the BIG V and you got pregnant, what would your first reaction be?  For the dudes, what would your first reaction be if your wife told you she was pregnant after the BIG V?
This question makes me chuckle.
When Mr. Twingle and I started dating his mom used to tell me about how there was "no stopping the N's".  I think it was an attempt to scare us into not doing the deed; but I digress.
You see Mr. Twingle is a product of a BIG V that didn't take!  He also has cousins who "shouldn't be here" but those aren't through faulty vasectomies.
So, yeah...if I ended up pregnant after the BIG V, I'd just chalk it up to "no stopping the N's"!

2.  Best memory about this summer so far.
Our family camping trip last week!  It was Pickle's first camping trip and we had a great time...after the first night!  Pickle got spooked that first night and cried for about 4 hours straight...totally unconsolable.  Which isn't like her at all.  But thankfully, she settled in the next day and we had a great time.

3.  How often do you change your sheets?  Your kids sheets?
Um, do I have to answer this one?
I'm embarrassed to say, not often enough.  Maybe once a month, unless there is a NEED, like a bathroom accident, etc...
Keeping up with clothing laundry for five is a challenge so adding bedding to the mix just isn't high on the priorities.

4.  Having just gone through TSA, would you rather have a full-body scan or a pat-down?
Neither, both are an invasion of privacy.  But I guess if I HAD to, I'd chose the pat-down.

5.  Since it's fair time, what's your favourite fair memory?
Well, it's not fair time yet in Canada.  Ours are usually in the Fall.
My favourite memory is probably as a teen.  I think I was about 16 and my friends and I spent the entire weekend at the fair.  The sights, sounds and smells always thrill me.

Wednesday Wonderings

Why is it that when we do something nice for our kids, like take them to a pool party; they can't say "thank you" and behave for once?
I took the three kids to a play date yesterday and the hostess just happens to have a pool.  Perfect considering the temperatures have made me feel like melting as of late.  While we were there, they were mostly well-behaved.  But the second we walked in the door the fighting and nitpicking each other began.

Really?  WTF?  We just spent a very good afternoon by a pool, swimming and having a good time.  Not once while we were there did either of the twins tell me "you're mean".  So why can't they just behave and be grateful that I even endeavoured to take three kids swimming, by myself?

Today is no better.  It's positively sweltering outside and I'm trying to limit the amount they're actually out in the yard playing.  So of course, they start in on one another.  Deliberately baiting and antagonizing the other causing my blood to boil.

I love my kids, I really do...but one woman can only take so much.  Is it too early to start the back-to-school countdown? (It's 48 days, in case you were wondering.)

Inspiration taken from SouleMama {this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend!

Monday Musings

Happy 4th of July to all my American readers!  I hope you're enjoying your long weekend as much as I enjoyed celebrating Canada Day last Friday.

Today is the first full week of summer vacation for the twins.  It's been interesting to say the least; but, I'm trying to stay positive and not sweat the small stuff.  Otherwise, it's going to be a VERY long summer.

Today was a quiet day at home.  The  morning was spent tidying rooms and putting away laundry; a never ending task.  After the Pickle woke from her nap we went to the grocery store to get a few things, mainly milk.  Then we returned home where the kids played in the pool.

Now before you go and get jealous, it's not a pool to envy.  It's an inflatable pool that my parents brought down and is barely big enough for the three kids to play in.  At least it's enough to cool them off in this blistering heat; and that's all that matters.
