Back to School Bug

I've decided there is one thing I don't like about the Fall; the back to school bug. Yep, it never fails. Within the first two or three weeks of the twins going back to school, we get sick. This year, we've been hit by sore throats, barky coughs and runny noses. It's not pretty.
I suppose I'm a little luckier than Mr. Twingle who has had to fly to Poland with the head cold. His poor sinuses must be ready to explode.
I can only hope that this brief interlude with the back-to-school bug will boost our immune systems for the many other bugs that are bound to come home.

Monday Musings

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend.  The Fall temperatures certainly made this mama very happy, despite the rain on Saturday.

We had quite an eventful weekend ourselves.  Lots of fun things happening, and some not-so-fun things too.

Saturday, Pretty and I went out in the morning to pick up a bike we had found on a Facebook Mommy Marketplace group.  For $30, she is now the proud owner of an 18", glitter, purple bike.  She spent every spare moment this weekend outside trying to get used to the new, bigger bike.
Then it was off to the grocery store for a few key items.  You know the ones, milk, bread, etc.  Of course, we also picked up a raspberry white chocolate crème brûlée cheese cake for dessert.  Let me tell you, this cheesecake is to die yummy!

Shortly after returning home, Pretty and I picked up the rest of the clan and ventured to Georgetown for our monthly Stooge dinner with my besties.  It's even better that the husbands and kids have all become besties too!  Our casual dinner with good friends turned into a little bit of a drink-fest for the men-folk, which just made us women laugh at their ridiculousness... and Mr. Twingle had better watching "Breaking Bad" or he might get the beats from one Mr. Thorne, LOL.

It was a late night for everyone and the kids all slept in till about 8:30-9:00.  Yeah, I know that's not much of a sleep in; but, when they usually wake a 6:00, you take what you can get.  So Sunday was a slow-start to the beautiful sunny day.  Pretty had to go outside to ride her bike, so I got dressed and went out with her and Pickle.  We happened upon our new next-door neighbours, who are just moving in, and introduced ourselves.  They seem very nice and I look forward to knowing them better.
As Pretty and Boo rode their bikes around the block, Pickle and I decided to draw pictures, with chalk, on the sidewalk.  Unfortunately, the bees decided to keep buzzing past us and one got caught in Pickle's hair.  As she freaked and tried to get it out, she squished it into her face where it promptly stung her, right under the eye.  My poor baby girl.  She was a trooper and let Mr. Twingle and I extract the stinger, ice it, and even took Benadryl without complaint.  Sadly, today her eye is all swollen; but, she is in good spirits.

Right after the sting.
Day 2.  Eye is almost swollen shut.

After our exciting morning, we ventured to Vineland for a late lunch/early dinner with Mr. Twingle's high school friend.  I just so happens that I get along with his wife, really well, so it's fun for everyone.  We had a great afternoon and the kids all played well.  Then it was time for home and putting the kids to bed.  After such a busy weekend, this mama was in bed by 9:30 too.

All in all, it was great weekend.  I love when our weekends are filled with friends we love, great food, perfect weather and fun.  After all, isn't fun the spice of life?

I hope your week goes well and you can find some fun in your daily life too.

The Great Nunna Search

I'm certain that at some point over the years, I've mentioned "Nunna".  Nunna is what Pickle calls one particular Piglet stuffed toy that she latched onto at the young age of only 6 months.
Today I thought we had lost Nunna.  It was bedtime and I couldn't find Nunna anywhere.  I couldn't recall Pickle having him all day, so that would mean he was in her bed, right?  Wrong.  It hit me like a Mack truck.  As we had waited for the twins' bus this morning, she handed Nunna to me to hold because he was getting wet on the grass.  Then a neighbourhood dog came by so I put him on the back bumper of the van to hold back our dog who was waiting with us.  Did I pick him back up?, I couldn't remember bringing him into the house once the twins had gone.
Somehow, I managed to get Pickle to sleep despite her heartbreaking pleas "Nunna lost", "Somebody take my Nunna, please they give him back", all said with a quivering lip.  With each plea, my heart was ripped into smaller and smaller pieces.  My poor little girl was heart-broken and it was all my fault.
I got the kids all tucked in and then sat down for mommy grief to wash over me.  I sobbed hysterically until I managed to pull myself together and walk the street in the hopes that I would find Nunna in the gutter somewhere.

No such luck.

I walked home, completely crest fallen and resigned to the fact that Nunna was indeed lost; and that's when it happened!  I was locking the back door since it had begun to rain, and the dog wouldn't go out, and as the wind blew the curtains of the gazebo moved.  Was that a flash of white under the corner of the deck?  No, it couldn't be, could it?  I hurry outside in the rain, no shoes, no jacket and grab for the flash of's NUNNA!

My heart raced with joy.  I have NEVER been so glad to see a stuffed toy in all my life.  I promptly yelled at the pig for all the grief he had caused, then hugged him close.  Yes, probably a little excessive; but, I couldn't help it, I was elated.

I raced upstairs and quietly tucked Nunna under Pickle's arm.  It took every last ounce of will power to not wake her; but, I know she'll find him in the morning and be over the moon with happiness.
I'm not sure what's going to happen if Nunna ever does get lost.  I don't think I can handle another event like the one tonight.  God willing, that won't ever happen and Pickle will outgrow Nunna before we have to deal with anything so tragic.
In the meantime, a girl and her Nunna are happily reunited and share many more experiences together.

Is it Time to Consider Oracle Certification?

In the past two decades, Oracle has increasingly been among the skills and knowledge required in a larger number of business enterprises. The industries now utilizing Oracle databases and other technologies have increased exponentially over just the last two years. For this reason, there has never been a better time to consider Oracle certification.

A formal certification through Oracle can not only make you a more attractive candidate in seeking new employment opportunities, it can also lead to promotions, pay increases and other advancements with your current employer as well. Salary surveys of IT professionals consistently show Oracle certification as being among the criteria that garners higher pay for professionals in the IT field. Across all industries, IT workers who hold a professional certification through Oracle, particularly those with Oracle DBA credentials, have higher salaries and better job security.

If you are considering now as the right time for pursuing an Oracle certification, you’ll want to do all you can to maximize your learning and increase your performance rating on the exam(s) you choose to take. Committing adequate time to study in preparation for the exam is essential. Using an exam prep service like is also advisable, and taking advantage of practice exams prior to taking the certification test is also a best practice for boosting your performance on an Oracle certification exam.

Best Laid Plans?

Why is it the best laid plans are the ones that always fall apart?  As I mentioned in yesterday's Monday Musings, the twins' bus picks up at 7:04am...otherwise known as "stupid o'clock".
In preparation for this awful hour, I went to bed early and set my alarm for 5:45, 15 minutes before we had the alarms scheduled to go off for the twins.

I guess because I was prepared to get up, Pickle decided that the day should begin at 3:30.  I heard her calling out, so Mr. Twingle went to her.  She asked to be tucked back in and that was it; or so we thought.  Not 10 minutes later, she was up again.  This time, she didn't want to sleep in her room so Mr. Twingle brought her in with us.  And this is where it all falls apart.

Pickle doesn't sleep.  She lays quietly for just long enough for Daddy to fall asleep again and then she tosses and turns, giggles, calls the dog, wonders where the cat went, jumps up and down, sings, pushes me out of bed and more.  At 5:30, I think she's finally fallen asleep and I try to sneak out of bed to turn off the alarm so it won't wake her.  I was mistaken though, as she got up fussing.  Luckily, Mr. Twingle was able to settle her back down long enough for me to escape to the washroom where I had my shower and got dressed.
At 6:00, the twins got up and miraculously stayed quiet enough to not wake Pickle!  They ate, got ready to wait for the bus and we were out the door by 6:50 at which time Mr. Twingle got up to come say bye to the kids.  Unfortunately, Pickle also got up :\

So now, it's 9:30 and Pickle is crabby...gee I wonder why?  It's going to be a long day if we can't convince her to take a nap at some point.  Wish us luck.

On the other hand, the twins got off to their first day of school, no worse for wear.  Here are some photos from the morning.  Enjoy!

Holiday Monday Musings

"It's the most wonderful time of the year" has been randomly playing in my head today.  Why?  Well, it's obvious isn't it?  Tomorrow the twins are back to school!

I'm totally going to miss my munchkins; but, I am SO not going to miss the constant bickering, hitting, meltdowns, tattling, name calling, etc...  I know it's sibling rivalry and I definitely fought with my kid brother growing up; but, this mama needs a reprieve.

The downside to school starting back up is that we got our bus pick up time and it's even EARLIER than last year!  The bus will be picking up at 7:04am; the bell doesn't ring until 8:25am.  That means my poor twinsies are on the bus for 1 hr 20 minutes.  Tell me I'm not crazy for thinking this is sheer madness?!  We're going to have to wake at 5:45 until we get into a routine.  It's going to be a LONG, rough wish me luck.

Wishing all the parents and kids a very safe "back to school" tomorrow.
